Tiny Knots

"Made using printmaking and collage, this zine is about struggling with mental health, and the solace found in a hobby. Influenced by my own mental health, I found parallels between this and my favourite pastime of crochet. I created a narrative from automatic writing prompted by my thoughts on these parallels, before crocheting samples using stitches which resonated with my writing. I then made collagraph prints with the samples, which I made into collages. 

I aimed to bring the tactility of crochet in to print, to mirror the comfort and joy I feel when crocheting. This is a heartfelt tribute to crochet and the positive effects it has on my mindset."

Tiny Knots is one of eight new zines commissioned by Out of the Blueprint for Print Expo 2023, sustainably riso printed at our studio in Leith using rice ink on recycled paper.
